    The following licenses allow you to operate a moped: 2 or 3 wheels, maximum speed of 45 km/h, and a maximum engine displacement of 50 cc if it has internal combustion with controlled ignition. The maximum engine power is 4 kilowatts:

    A category AM driver's license is required for riders of mopeds, scooters, or light quadricycles with a maximum engine capacity of 50 cc or a maximum nominal power not exceeding 4 kW (electric motorcycles) and a maximum speed not exceeding 45 km/h.

    • Holders of a category B license are also allowed to operate a moped or scooter in the AM category.
    • An AM driver's license is not required for riders of mopeds or scooters with a maximum engine capacity of 50 cc and a maximum speed less than 25 km/h.
    • If you were born before 15/02/1961, an AM driver's license is not required.

    What license is required to drive a moped (up to 50cc)?

    To drive a moped (any type), you must be over 16 years old and hold a driver's license. To drive a moped falling under category AM rights opens up. Those who have a driver's license for a car (category B) or a motorcycle (category A, A1, or A2) can operate a moped on their existing license without needing an additional category.
